"Joie de vivre" is a commonly used expression in Louisiana and it serves as the Pelican State's unofficial motto. Translated from French, "joie de vivre" means "the joy of living."

For this original design, Baton Rouge artist Marc Fresh took a bold new approach in re-interpreting the official Louisiana state seal and flag. Marc stays true to Louisiana's deep multicultural roots, while giving Louisiana's likeness a 21st century makeover that celebrates the joie de vivre.
