Frequently Asked Questions
1) What in the world is Storyville?
Storyville is the place for locally designed and customizable apparel and goods as well as screen printing services. With shops in Baton Rouge (next to LSU), in Austin (next to the University of Texas), and in New Orleans (on historic Magazine Street) our mission is to celebrate local artists and designers and to encourage individual expression. Our motto here at Storyville is “Wear Your Story”-- it’s as simple as that.
We’re a four-part shop. We offer our apparel designed by local artists as well as homemade designs. We also make one-of-a-kind custom tee shirts as well as tee shirts by the thousands.
Storyville was founded and run by the eleven Harvey Durham siblings. The doors to Storyville opened on January 16, 2007, at 236 W. Chimes Street in Baton Rouge (right outside the North Gates of LSU). The doors to Storyville Austin opened on August 29, 2007. Storyville Austin is located at 2001A Guadalupe Street (on the Drag, on the corner of 20th & Guadalupe). And on March 27, 2009, Storyville New Orleans opened right in the heart of historic Magazine Street - 3029 Magazine (Magazine & Eighth Streets).
2) Can I sell my goods through Storyville? What do I have to do to become a Storyville Designer?
Storyville is a collection of local designers -- we’re here to put the spotlight on all the local goodness of our communities -- so first things first - are you local? Do you live in Louisiana or Texas (as we grow, we hope to find more homes for Storyville in other states - so be on the lookout!)? If yes, then excellent!
We’ll take a look at your work, and if it seems like a good fit for Storyville, then will get your goods on the shelves asap. We take finished goods, i.e. t-shirts, bags, wallets, kids clothes, etc. that are ready to sell, but we’ll be more than happy to look at some of your design work beforehand if you want any feedback on a design before it goes to production. Storyville works on consignment with all designers.
Don’t screen print yourself? We can. Talk to us and we can get the ball rolling!
Email us with more questions! Send Baton Rouge e-mails to storyville.batonrouge@gmail.com, Austin e-mails to storyville.austin@gmail.com and New Orleans e-mails to storyville.neworleans@gmail.com.
3) How can I customize my own tee shirt?
Storyville offers customers the ability to customize tees and other apparel in the shops (but not via the website). We offer thousands of fonts and graphics from which customers may choose in order to create their own tees. We may also be able to use a customer’s own graphic, if it’s high quality enough, in digital format, and matches the criteria for what we can do.
We use American Apparel (sweatshop-free, made right here in the U.S.A.) tees for the custom shirts - you pick color of the tee and the color of the vinyl for the lettering/graphics. Custom tees normally cost $25.
Don’t necessarily want to make a t-shirt - maybe you need a onesie or an apron instead - bring one in and we’ll customize it too!
Come into the shop or email with any questions about the custom process.
(Looking to make more than one or a few tees? If you’re doing 12 or more in a batch, we can screen print your tees for you, which will substantially drive down your per-shirt cost.)
4) Can I get Storyville to screen print my tee shirts, kids clothes and baby clothes?
Absolutely. Send an e-mail to Storyville.Printing@gmail.com to inquire about Storyville's screen printing services. We'll be happy to give you a quote.
5) Can I wholesale any Storyville Originals and sell them in my own shop?
Do you think some of the Storyville Originals - exclusive tees produced by the Storyville kids - would sell well in your own shop? Send an e-mail to storyville.neworleans@gmail.com for wholesale information. And click here to see all of the Storyville Originals.
6) How do the tee shirts fit?
Most Storyville tees are printed on 100% cotton, American Apparel brand tee shirts. These shirts are not pre-shrunk, so they will shrink if they are placed in the dryer. The unisex-cut American Apparel tee shirt is cut like a traditional men's tee shirt, although it runs about a half-size smaller than Hane's, Fruit of the Loom or Gildan brand t-shirts. The female cut American Apparel tee shirt is significantly smaller than the unisex cut (a female XL is about the same size as a unisex medium tee). Compared the unisex cut, the female cut tee has smaller sleeves, is more narrow in the torso and is shorter in length. If a product is printed on a something other than a 100% cotton American Apparel t-shirt, it will be noted on the product page. Click here to see sizing charts for the unisex cut and the female-specific ut American Apparel jersey-style tee shirts.
7) Can I be a model or a guest photographer for Storyville?
If you’d like to help Storyville celebrate all the local goodness that we come across by sharing your modeling or photography talents, get in touch with us. Any college students or people in our Storyville community (Baton Rouge, Austin and New Orleans area), who think this would be fun, email us or send us a message through Facebook (Josh, Rebekah, Elizabeth or Gabriel Harvey).
8) Where are the shops? What are the hours? And how do I get in contact with Storyville Baton Rouge, Storyville Austin or Storyville New Orleans?
Click here to get shop locations, hours and contact information for the Storyville shops in Baton Rouge, Austin and New Orleans.
9) What is Storyville’s refund/exchange policy?
We want you to love your Storyville tees, and we want them to fit right so that you’ll wear them day and night. So if it doesn’t fit right, mail us back the non-washed, non-worn item and we’ll send you the new size (email us before though to make sure we have the new size in-stock!).
Most of the shirts are 100% cotton and will shrink in the dryer, so keep that in mind when purchasing.
The “female cut” tees are fitted and a fair bit smaller than the regular - “unisex” - cut which is your good ole standard t-shirt cut. For example, a “female large” is closer to a “unisex small” in width, but it’s a little bit shorter in length and the sleeves are slightly capped.
